What’s the frequency, Ólafur?
Our favorite fisherman and friend Ólafur Kolbeinn Guðmundsson was quite busy during the Christmas period of 2014. Not decorating his boat or tree, but experimenting with drum machines of all kind. The 3rd chapter of his work features 9 different machines on 4 tracks.
The album’s name “Event Matrix” refers to a matrix of MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface), and control voltage events. However, it could refer to life events, and how different people can resonate at some intervals, although not being on the same frequency.
Inspiration for this EP was found in the masterpiece “Time out” by The Dave Brubeck Quartet (1959).
The album art is a photograph of a Roland TR-707 drum machine rhythm matrix of the track “Event Matrix”.
Track I “Five Eyes” is like a Miami Vice power boat full speed on the Everglades, the Crockett’s Theme 2.0.
Track II “Seven Sisters”, no chalk cliffs on the horizon, but a laid back tune for the 7 sissies.
Track III “Event Matrix” is DnB extravaganza for the chilled generation
Track IV “Lullaby” is a song to fall asleep on Christmas Eve.
“Event Matrix” is the perfect Christmas gift for Neo who’s running out of red and blue pills, and even to forget Agent Smith.
