Finally Gunnar Lárus Hjálmarsson, better known as Dr. Gunni, and his friends found some time to record a second album for children (young and old). Big Bang, here’s “Alheimurinn!” (The Universe!). Anno 1997 Herr Doctor released his first album “Abbababb!”. The second longplayer contains songs by Dr. Gunni and Heiða Eiríks and was recorded by Björgvin Ívar Baldursson at the Geimsteinn studio in Keflavík. Sixteen years later Gunnar made some new friends, and his own children were able to become vocalists themselves. The YouTube video trilogy and the album’s art work were made by Rán Flygenring.
Gunni and longtime friend Heiða know how to write a catchy, funny tune. Sometimes surrealism plays the first fiddle, now and then even a sensitive song creates a flood of tears. The album has a rocky take off. You can clap your hands and say yeah together with an überhappy dog in song 2. “Sófinn gleypti mömmu og pabba” is about a killer sofa à la Stephen King. Track IV “Krummi á staur” is a La La La-driven song about a raven. The fifth song features Mugison and keyboard player Jakob Frímann Magnússon a.o. In “Gubbuhesturinn” a sick horse goes to see the doctor in Gangnam tölt. 1, 2, 3, 4!: E.T. meets the Ramones in “Besti vinur minn er geimvera”, starring Haukur (Morðingjarnir) and Steinunn (DJ Flugvélar og Geimskip). Next songs have as guests Stefán Örn Gunnlaugsson (Buff/Íkorni) and Jóhann Helgason (Change, Þú og ég). There is a rock ‘n rolling football in “Boltinn minn”. Track X “Ég elska flugur” is sang by Helgi Björnsson: it is like the movie The Fly with a soundtrack by the Cramps. “. Lóa Hjálmtýs (FM Belfast) is vocalist in “Frekjudósin”. Highlight of the album is the song about our toes. “Tærnar” features the kid stars of Gunnar, Heiða Eiríks & Elvar. “Ljúfsár lokalag” is a bittersweet symphony as last comer.
“Alheimurinn!” is a pillbox filled with 14 colourful, atypical meds for kids: a more than descent successor of the successful album “Abbababb!”! A song a day, doesn’t keep the doctor away.
