To make a long story short
Singer/songwriter/guitarist/producer Birgir (Biggi) Örn Steinarsson, has been a famous front figure in the Icelandic music scene ever since his band Maus emerged onto the Icelandic rock scene in the last decade. Biggi of Maus made the album “10 short stories”, which is a collection of songs recorded, written and/or produced by Birgir. Not intended to be a sort of portfolio, the record shuffles between different styles & genres.
The first song “Bandalag dauðra dúfna” features chanteuse Kolbrún: sort of Bigital goes Lhooq / Bang Gang with Biggi as Jóhann / Barði Jóhannsson. Album hip hops on a rap song: “Þetta er abstrakt!” (feat. Heimir ‘rappari’ Björnsson). Song III “Drug of choice (part 2)” is Biggi’s 2ndchapter of a song on the album “Id” (12Tónar, 2008). Song IV “I surrender” is a soft one. The 5th one, “Blaut tuska í andlitið”, is an acoustic singer-songwriter style song. In the 6th song “Even if the world turns” another female vocalist, Rósa, is the femme fatale. 7th Song “Meðvindur kær” is a Maus-inspired one. The next one “Onomatopoeia” is a cover of kimono’s classic instrumental tune from their second album, “Artic Death Ship” (Smekkleysa, 2005). Song IX “Það vex með þér leyndarmál” is a live recording, ending with an applause. Last song is a goodbye of a good LP: “Bless”.
The beautiful ‘9 wolves’ artwork of “10 short stories” was made by Kristín Anna Kristjánsdóttir. This long-awaited longplayer shows storyteller Biggi 10 times on its best.
